My wife and I are thinking of a game reserve visit the first week of January. It is their low season so I wondered if it was too hot, too rainy, too little wildlife, too many mosquitos.

Are the low slung boats a risky adventure and could we be food for crocodiles, hippos, etc???


I was particularly interested in ther Delta but if there is a good idea for another place - please let me know.

We will be in JoBurg on December 30th so we could go there for the next 9 days for whatever lenght of time we can afford.

Is there a better placve to visit in South Africa for wildlife, beautiful scenery, or a real life-remembering experience.

We have done safaris in Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania and would like something a bit different.

Any ideas?.................

If that's the only time you can travel, go for it. Botswana is fabulous and offers a different experience from season to season.

If you mention your specific interest, maybe someone can furnish more help. I.e., are you a keen photographer? are you intersted in trying to see certain kinds of animals? ofcourse, the animals are wild and you hv to remember that everything is the luck of the draw!!! game viewing or weather or light etc etc.,

I would opt for Chief's camp or Mombo and Duba Plains.

Xigera, Kwara/Little Kwara and Vumbura would also be taken into consideration.

I was in Botswana in the beginning of February of this year, and had great wildlife viewings. I had a good time at Chiefs, with some good game viewing. I had the best times and game viewing at the Kwando camps... im not sure if cost is at all an issue, but with their "green season" pricing, Kwando was excellent value for the dollar. You can go to the Kwando camps, have a private vehicle to yourselves (something I recommend), and probably still be 1/2 the price per night of Chiefs, and around 1/3 the price of Mombo.

to see what is the best time to view animals.

Any way to explain to me the best way for transportation from Johannesburg to Kwando Camp and back? I am new to this destination and could use help planning it....

There are a couple of ways to get there... you can either go through Maun in Botswana, and have your camp's arrange tranportation from there. Your other option is to fly from JNB to either Livingstone in Zambia or Vic Falls in Zimbabwe. Again, your camps can arrange transport from there for you. One advantage of this option is you can spend a day or two at the falls (something I recommend).

If you are looking at Kwando, one other nice things about them is that they have a camp at Livingstone (Songwe Village), 2 camps to the North (Lagoon and Lebala), and one camp in the Delta (Kwara). I think its a great circuit to follow... from either Maun or LVI / VFA they can arrange all air transport for you.

If you are starting at Livingstone. They will shuttle you to the camps via Kasane. You will probably head bk to Joburg thru Maun.....
