Thanks Clematis and WTB, I have certainly enjoyed the last week and those returning with such exciting stories and pictures. They've fed my fire and I am ready for some encounters of the animal kind. I'll be posting about my trip so soon, you'll be surprised I was even gone.
Clematis, you have a trip coming up very soon somewhere in Tanzania, have you decided where yet?
WTB, you have been all over the place and are probably off for another interesting country soon. Stay safe. Liz

Dottie-
I am so glad that somehow I helped you. I have learned from the other posters so much in the time I've been here. Thank goodness we have the mix we have here, we somehow all fill in the gaps and I truly believe we give unbiased help without looking for personal gain. Good luck and since my trip is short, I will probably be back first. Just know we are all rooting for you and awaiting anxiously your return and detailed trip report. Liz

Liz:
You will be sorely missed on this forum while you are away, but we all hope that this will be the best safari for you yet.
I won't hold you to your promise about the beef. Just wanted everyone to be aware of the problem.
We'll all eagerly await your trip report upon your return to see if you found some truly gorgeous wildies (and crocs) to name after your friends here on Fodors.
Kwaheri friend. We'll miss you while you're gone.

Thanks Kavey and Jan-
Jan, I hope you know I tease a LOT! I would never hurt your feelings for anything. I was just funning with you. But I will only eat the beef, pork and regular meat. Don't care about the wild animals enough to wound someone. But I will say this--
You recommend Tamarind. Don't fish usually live and breath? Gotcha! I can't change our reservations or I would. We try to eat more fish than red meat, but we'll limp along and I won't go back on a promise.
I will think of you all often. We are packed and just wishing we could be on our way tomorrow, but a couple of more days to go.
Kavey- For some reason, Botswana is so heavy on my mind. Sometimes branching out to another area of Africa just haunts one more. Take care and I'll be back before anyone realizes I'm gone. Liz

Botswana (and Namibia and South Africa) are on my mind too. I can't tell you how excited I get watching our camcorder footage. Poor Pete can't concentrate on whatever he's reading or doing on the laptop unless I try and calm down and stop oohing and aahing every 5 seconds!
Will you take pics of the giraffe (or hippo) you name after me?
Your friendly Africaphile Diva!

Yes Kavey, I will take a picture of the animals I name after you and Susan. Now you must not be upset at what I find. Just remember that my heart is in the right place. As I recall you wanted a giraffe, but might end up a croc or hippo, depending on what I can find. I may not even see a giraffe. And cheetahs aren't exactly a dime a dozen you know. Susan will carry on like I don't know what. I can hear her now. I will do my best. Of that I'm sure. Liz

Shocked, I tell you! Shocked! First I am called a diva, then I get the offer of naming a wildebeest (not really the most attractive animal in the kingdom) after me ... actually, I think I got that order mixed up. But that is beside the point. Yes, Liz, being the diva that I am, I fully expect to read in your trip report that you found the perfect cheetah and named it "Susan." A picture would be nice of my namesake! All kidding aside, I can only reiterate what I have written numerous times before ... have a magical trip and know that many of us will be thinking of you while you are on your magnificent journey to a special corner of the world. The Mara!!! Oh, I can hear the "nightshift" now, those darn hippos are so loud!, and I can smell the land ... Liz, I wish you a wonderful journey and know that I will be with you in spirit. All the best!! Bon voyage!
