Best beach after safari
After safari in Tanazania in April 05 I wish to spend a week on a beach. I believe it is the rainy season on the coast ? , if so where would you recommend for a small 4/5 star hotel

You will find that a number of resorts are actually closed between Easter (end March in '05) thru April, May and some even into beginning of June. But others are open.
So you might consider staying in Stone Town which itself an experience (though not on a beach or have pools), and then depending on the weather any given day/s, get a driver to take you to a beach area. If you prefer a hotel, the Serena is next to Stone Town and here you'll at least have a pool.

I was in Tanzania in September and then went to Fundu Lagoon on the Island of Pemba. It is a short flight from Zanzibar and then a boat ride from the port to the lagoon. I believe their website is www.fundulagoon.com. Hans is the manager there and quite interesting. The lodging was nice and the food very good. You can take a boat over to a private island called Mesali where there is excellent diving and snorkling.
We enjoyed out time there but decided that next trip to Africa we will go to Mnemba Island (www.ccafrica.com) as the service from the CC lodges is unparalleled.
We also stayed in Stone Town at the Serena for one night and I didn't like it. The people were friendly but we didn't care for the hotel or location at all.

xymox - there are too many variables to answer the question "what's the average price for safari (flight & hotels)"
What country/ies you're visiting - there are many safari countries in Africa?
When will you be traveling - time of year?
From what country you're traveling from/to will determine airfares?
For how long a period - 1 week, 2 weeks, longer?
Transport within countries - by land or air?
Type of accommodations - hotels, lodges, permanent tents, mobile tents?
Group tours or Independent Travel?
Your Budget?
I would suggest you hit the library or a book store and read thru some guidebooks on travel to East African (Kenya & Tanzania) and Southern African (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia) safaris. These books will give you an idea of what is available to see and do and type of itineraries available.
