Africa VS Middle East

Is this now a Middle East specific forum?

Ha ha Tom.

I'd prefer a split. But then it could become trickier for anyone who wanted to inquire about a couple day stopover in Dubai before their safari.

Given the fact that Fodors decided to ignore our requests to split the forum in the past, and given the upgrade of this forum last year, which was a seriously missed opportunity for much-needed improvements such as embedding of images: it's no wonder more and more people stay away.

As far as safari-related topics is concerned, there's hardly any good threads anymore.

"... to inquire about a couple day stopover in Dubai before their safari."
And how do they get such info now if they want to stop over in London or Amsterdam?

Safari related threads and posters seem to be slowly drifting away. Trip Advisor seems to be mentioned a lot but I never liked their format. Talk about a split, they split forums down into countries. Nor have I appreciated their many many self proclaimed experts whose safari was -the best ever-, yes it was, because it was their -only- safari ever. Then there is SafariTalk. I haven't been visiting SafariTalk much, but I just now took a quick look and think I'll give it more attention.

They didn't go with the split because of N.Africa. Where would one post a question on Egypt or Morocco? Middle East or Africa?

Sometimes it seems most topics are about safari, at times about N.Africa/M.East. It all evens out in the end.

Non-Safari talk keeps me aware of what is happening on the rest of the huge continent.

That was supposed to be a joke. Word!

Everybody has left for Facebook I think. Plus the continued poor economy is reducing travel and therefore travel talk.

How about different colors of the Tagged country? Red ones for Middle East and Green ones for the rest of Africa for easy visual distinction.

Morocco and Egypt could be plaid. Actually, I would put Morocco in Africa and Egypt in Middle East if I were divvying things up.

I had been thinking that things were less lively than 18 months ago when I first logged in. Sorry to have it confirmed.

We lost the war. The tide has turned. Our ship has sailed. This is a Mideast forum. Subsahara is just an afterthought in the scheme of of things.

"Everybody has left for Facebook"
Facebook?? Isn't that where our Congressman Weiner was showing off/sharing his junk? I wouldn't want on that kind of site with a bunch of such commie pinko perverts!!!

regards - tom
ps - maybe the reason it is so safari quiet here is that most everyone is off on safari?? Just about four of us stuck at home

IMHO a split was easy enough; 1) sub sahara, 2) the rest.

Over the course of any given year there maybe more Africa, less Middle East; others with more Middle East, less Africa. Just the way it is.

Or, as tom mentions... lots of folks off on safari and we're left at home... ugh!

For sure you won't find me on Facebook!

I agree that the forum seems rather light on safari topics these days. I'll do my part to improve that by posting my July Tanzania itinerary in a new thread.

Maybe we all miss the good old days when Rocco was on here non-stop. It seemed to be all safari topics then. I am planning my third trip next August to Zimbabwe and there isn't much info here to help me. I put together my itinerary by contacting a few agents and reading whatever I could find.

Lynn you have an upcoming trip I'm sure we'd all love to hear about. Calo has an awesome trip coming up.

I see no reason why we can't split the Middle East and Africa. Corporations do it all the time in their company structures. We aren't idiots - if we can't find Tunisia in the Middle East we'll figure out that it's in Africa...

Rocco??

Wasn't that the so-called TA who wrecked his Porche so he could spend the insurance money on a trip to Africa?

And then later arranged a trip for someone but simply pocketed that person's money? I guess he wanted his Porche back...

Calo - do that. Oh, I see it up now

<<Is this now a Middle East specific forum?>>

A quick count of the top 25 shows about 8 safari-related posts and another 5 or so about South African or other non-ME countries.

Seems pretty fairly balanced to me.

grexxx3 - are you trying to confuse us with the facts ??
So, I also looked at top 25, got 10 for safari, 12 non-safari, and 3 ? . So, maybe it is more "balanced" by dong the math. But for me a better balance would be 20 safari, 5 not
