1 night Ngorongo crater and 3 nights serengeti??

Hi,
What would you do? spend 1 night at Ngorongo crater and 3 nights serengeti in a private camp or 2 nights in each place?

Which place is better for viewing animals in June (first week)?
Thanks!!

Faccina,
What does the rest of your itinerary look like?

Personally--and this is based only one one trip taken and one trip planned (June too )--I would always take more days in the Serengeti.

I like the Crater. The views and the animal viewing are impressive but the Serengeti is so vast that it's remarkably easy to get away from other vehicles and feel as if you're alone out there.

Oh, I just saw your other post. Janischa has some good ideas.

Also, you don't need to go to Kenya to see the Maasai. Plenty of Maasai in Tanzania, too.

Here's Faccina's other thread - http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34757536

Are these the choices you've been given by your tour operator that have availability? In case you haven't checked avialability yet, that may determine where you end up, but I'd also vote for 1 night crater/3 night Serengeti if those were my choices.

DAR to Manyara? How? When do you arrive and where are you staying?
DAR is down south and Manyara is in the North.

If 4 is the max # of days to work with in this combination, then in June I'd do 3 Serengeti.

Yes, as many nights in Serengeti as possible, and just one in Ngorongoro.

Kilimanjaro airport (JRO) will be closer but where are you flying from? Service to JRO is limited. KLM flies direct from Amsterdam. Otherwise, you have to connect in another African city.

Faccina, I certainly concur with other comments as to maximizing number of days on the Serengeti. Been in northern Tanzania twice (both times in June). While the Crater is not to be missed I would definitely use the extra day on the Serengeti. Regardless of the wildebeast migration you will see a great variety of wildlife on the plains. Arriving in DAR will reduce time afield somewhat but if that is the way it has to be it is still okay as you will be in Tanzania. And, you will have ample opportunity to visit the Maasai as at least one and maybe two villages are located right adjacent the road between the Crater and Serengeti. Have a great trip and please provide us a report and pictures when you return.
