Maybe the strong wind of late is an indication that the rains are coming!

Quite a few on this board are going to Tanz in Feb/March and it will be great if all of you can see a greener landscape filled with wildebeest and zebra!

Well roccco and Bat, there is another site called www.wildwatch.com where u get regular updates on the migration. Also ndutu lodge updates it's site regularly for the migration.

I checked Wildwatch but their latest update is four weeks old (December 13th). Hopefully they will provide an update later by this week, as it seems they update this information about once per month.

I will keep my fingers crossed for rain for those of you leaving soon. This makes me glad that I am not going to be there until the beginning of March.

Thanks for that Ndutu suggestion. While they only update their site every two months or so, I do love their archived reports and have printed out the ones that cover March 2004 and March 2005 just to get a feel of what to expect for my own safari.

Count me among those who will soon be in Tanzania. We're leaving on 15 January for two weeks including Selous and Ruaha in addition to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro. It's my first trip to Tanzania, and I've been waiting to do this for about six years. Then it's off to South Africa for another five weeks.

so where is THE place to be to see this migration if i will be in north TZ area in mid march? which parks, and parts of TZ and KY?

what have you been told about this area (Selous and Ruaha) in terms of weather, since your heading there so soon? i have read not to visit the area "With the Selous and Ruaha still being closed at end-May (still the wet season)"

Most people/many people have neither the time nor the money to stake out three locations in the Serengeti in March, so...arm yourself with information, book your accommos based on that info. and take your chances. The Seronera area has quite a bit of resident wildlife (read: do not migrate) although consequently the most tourists.

So my answer: go to the Serengeti in mid-March, and visit the other parks in the Northern Circuit as well. Why not, you're there anyway, right?

Thanks for the update on the migration. We depart for Kenya/Tanzania this Wednesday. Our itinerary should put us in the Serengeti around the early part of February. We are just as excited to go no matter what the conditions are - but for the sake of the wildlife its nice to hear that the rains have started.
