Side Trip to Morroco from Spain
I'll be travelling to spain in June for about about two weeks and I would like to plan a side trip to Morocco for 2-3 days. I'll be visitng Barcelona, Ibiza, and Majorca; which do not appear to be very convient to travel to Morocco. Can anyone offer any suggestion on what city would be the best and most convinent to get to. Right now I'm leaning towards Marrakech, but open to suggestions. So far the best option for travel seems be to go back to Madrid and fly either to Marrakech or Casablanca.
Regards,
Andrew

Tangier can be visited independently, by taking ferry from Algeciras. Believe me, you'll have no trouble finding a guide when you get to Tangier; quite the contrary, you will have to beat them off with sticks. They are the most persistent, aggressive guides I have ever encountered, and made our trip to Tangier rather unpleasant. Its impossible to wander independently and freely without being constantly accosted, and you will need a local guide to buffer you from other guides.

The guide in Tangier will see to it that you are taken to souvenir and rug shops. In fact, you may not have any choice. Also, he will ask for the assistance of a police officer to get you back on the ferry with no delay. The police officer will then ask for a fee, which will be most of the money in your wallet. I refused to pay a "bribe"; my arm was taken firmly, and I was advised that I was required to pay the fee.
We had planned to visit Morocco for a week in the future. Those 3 hours were enough.
Also, do not change money to dirhams on the ferry. They will refuse to exchange them back to eoros on the return trip.

Shelley,
A travel agent in Torremolinos " Alfa Travel " should be good.
Viajes Alfa the Spanish name. Since it is near Marbella, they can organise the tour to Morocco for you.
I am leaving next month.
Have fun.
