Highway to be unpaved?
"The Serengeti road project has not been abandoned ... we have just revised it. I don't know where all this confusion comes from," Natural Resources and Tourism Minister Ezekiel Maige told Reuters..."

Unfortunately the Tanzanian Government have only announced that they are "seriously considering" changing to the southern route... but as Sandra says in her article: http://www.mysafari.com/african-blog...the-road-4013/
Until they actually commit - we are all holding our breath. Need to keep the pressure up

Guess, it's still wait and see. But yes, pressure should be kept up.
Will TANAPA rangers really be stopping vehicles driving too fast on this road? Will there be sufficient staff to handle this as well other responsibilities of the rangers.
Still too many open questions and concerns.

STOP THE SERENGETI HIGHWAY
(i quote the last posting)
*LAWSUIT STILL ON* The ANAW (African Network For Animal Welfare) is moving forward with their lawsuit against the highway filed in the East African Court Of Justice, with the hearing scheduled in a month or so. They have said on their webpage: "Whereas some conservationists and a cross section of the media have claimed a great victory for conservation believing that plans for a road across the Serengeti have been dropped, ANAW is cautiously welcoming the development in light of a case pending before the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) in Arusha Tanzania." We have a legal defense fund for this lawsuit. You can read more about the lawsuit in our notes section-there is a link at the end to donate.
