tour companies to south africa

I have never taken an escorted tour before, but am thinking of taking one to South Africa. Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) with the following? Globus, Collette, 2afrika, trafalgar, smartours, far+wide/african travel inc., or go away tours? (or any other I did not mention but you would recommend).

Thank you

MK,

I have been working with a company named the Africa Adventure Company. They came highly recommended by friends, and friends of friends. The owner, Nick Nolting, has written several books about the country as well as has a fairly comprehensive safari journal on the market.(complete with checklists, animal illustrations, etc).

My husband and I are taking our first trip with them in two weeks...and have found them to be highly efficient and knowledgeable. Their customer service is outstanding!

Their web site is: http://www.africa-adventure.com/index01.html

If you have any other questions, send me an e-mail. We are very excited about our trip and would love to share.

Pam

You might also try Fish Eagle Safaris at www.fisheaglesafaris.com. We had an excellent trip with them. You will find that a lot of companies book through Wilderness Safaris in Africa.

We are leaving in 8 weeks for a safari booked through 2Afrika. Of course I have not actually taken the safari yet so can't comment on that, however the customer service so far has been A+. I decided to book with them based upon their glowing reviews in Frommer's and through references I came across on this forum. Good luck in you plans.

We took a trip to Kenya last May with 2Afrika and it was fantastic. It was VERY inexpensive and we were worried that it would be less than a great adventure . . . but, our trip was GREAT!

It exceeded all our expectations and we would definitely use Ken Hieber (owner) and his company for any trips to his homeland.

2Afrika is a bargain!
Sandy

MK, I also just booked with Africa-Adventure this past week. I chose them over the dozens of others available because they were so willing to work with me on exactly what I wanted. I also had never traveled on "tour" before and only used them for the safari parts through Wilderness Safaris that I had to use someone. They were okay with me handling the cape town part myself and setting the itinerary that I wanted.
e-mail me if you have more questions.

I concur with Africa Adventure. Pam - I will be interested in hearing about your safari when you return. We are planning a trip next year, and Africa Adventure has been most accommodating in tailoring a safari to meet our needs - from SA to Botswana. Their resonse time has been amazing. They are very pleasant to work with.
