Our laptop was stolen on Princess Cruises
Our laptop was stolen by a crew member while on a Princess cruise. It was eventually returned, but the incident ruined our experience. Princess has not offered any compensation. The least they could have done was to comp our cruise, or offer a future free cruise.
Short of hiring a lawyer, any suggestions on how to get compensation from them? They have ignored our emails.
Thanks

Sorry your laptop was stolen by a crew member, but it "ruined your cruise"? Why take it if it is that important? I never take anything I can't live without on any vacation. You did get it back. Personally, I think your reqests are over the top and way beyond what would be even fair. If I was Princess I would ignore those requests, too.

Sorry for your experience. While everyone has a first post on Fodors, you may encounter some skepticism when your first post is to complain about a specific company.
While admittedly not an attorney, other than annoyance and inconvenience, it is difficult to see what your damages are. Glad you got your laptop returned - and am curious how the whole thing evolved - how you know it was a crew member, how it came to be returned.
I would send a certified letter to a person's name at Princess - but also think a comped cruise or future free cruise is way over the top of what you are entitled to - I would think, if anything, a hundred dollars or so would be appropriate.

When we got on board on Norwegian, we went to a lounge to wait till the cabin is ready. My husband sat on something hard, and it was cell phone. We were not sure if it was somebody who'd just left the ship, or just boarded, so we kept it to see if anybody calls.
A man called from another cell phone, I answered, we met by the elevators to return the phone. He was very shaken up! I hope he didn't feel like his cruise was ruined.

You need to realize several things. You get absolutely no sympathy from responders on this web site. Wonder who they are? Cruise companies tend to be unresponsive. Probably don't want to admit any responsibility. And to get a free ctuise for the problem seems excessive. Assurance that the offender was properly disciplined would suffice.

You might get some sympathy if I knew the true story and your demand was "normal."Why is when someone has a problem they think they are entitled to everything? Several thousands of cruise comps for the potential lost of a used $1000 computer worth a couple hundred bucks. And it was recovered. So far out of line as to be ridiculous. No damages, no loses, some inconvenience, perhaps a comp tour or the upscale dining room.

How much was your computer worth that you thought you should get a free cruise? We just went on a cruise and took our laptop computer and left it in the room whenever we were gone and felt if we lost it we lost it. We didn't want to of course, but we sure didn't feel we deserved a free cruise. And....ours was a brand new computer.

Facts as related in original post: OP claims a crew member stole his/her computer. OP recovered computer. OP thinks he/she is entitled to free cruise.
As I see it, yes OP had an untoward experience but it was resolved with no actual harm other than a period of time when OP was somewhat inconvenienced by not having access to his/her laptop. While this might be considered an unfortunate event in the end there was "no harm/ no foul" and it certainly doesn't warrant being comped for the cost of the cruise.
If what OP says is true then legally he/she could press charges against the crew member for theft and, if convicted the crew member could face possible jail time or parole. If the laptop wasn't recovered and the crew member was convicted the court could require restitution from the crew member. I doubt the cruise line itself could be found liable. Since the laptop was returned OP is not entitled to any additional compensation.
Other than having a bad experience while on vacation this is a non-event.
