Helsinki - Saint Petersburg - Tallin photos, 1995
In 1995 we went to St. Petersburg to see the exhibit of "recuperated" Impressionists. And of course, we took advantage of the trip to see some of the city. Here are the photos:

For those puzzled by the order of the photos, we stayed within walking distance of the end of the Nevsky Prospekt, so I started the photos at the Nevsky Monastery and cemetery, and then moved back into town, more or less.

Thanks a lot
very good pictures.
You should post them also under the Cruise heading , as many people do the Baltic Cruise.

We went on our own, hoping for a home stay but something went awry and eventually our deposit was returned via a private check drawn to a New York bank. The whole deal sounded shady, but had been listed in Rick Steves as available. So we ended up in the youth hostel (dormitory rooms), something we probably would not do any more, although that is more our style than staying in a luxury hotel. We had a guide for our last day who shyly offered tours at the door of the youth hostel. He was very good, but unfortunately I lost his card; besides, who knows what he is doing since then.
In Helsinki we stayed in a student dormitory (school was out and it was a private room with its own bath) and we were in Tallin for only 14 hours or so, arriving at 6 a.m. and leaving that evening for Helsinki. Helsinki was our Finnair hub (SFO - Helsinki- Paris - Helsinki - SFO), but I was less impressed visually with Helsinki than Tallin.

Both companies whose film I used were actually using print film that was converted to slides, so I have both slides and negatives. I discovered that scanning from the negative gives better results than scanning from the slide, but there is also some Photoshop Elements editing involved.
