Moving from Terminal 4 to Terminal 8 JFK

Hey I have a few questions, I will be arriving at JFK airport at 12:40pm and have a conneting flight to indianapolis at 3:10pm. First of all how do I get to terminal 8 from t4? And Will I have enough time? I am not a US citizen so I'm assuming it'll take a little longer but I'm just wondering what you guys think.

A 2 1/2 hour connecting time should be sufficient but you probably won’t have much extra time to dilly dally.

I assume you are arriving on an international flight so once you exit the Customs Hall follow the signs for the AirTrain which connects all the terminals. Trains run every 3 minutes and it will take less than 10 minutes to get between terminals.

Upon arrival at JFK you'll deplane, clear Immigration (aka Passport Control), proceed to the luggage carousels in the Customs Hall to claim any checked luggage then clear Customs. If you already have your boarding pass for your connecting flight and your luggage has already been tagged to your final destination you'll re-check the luggage just outside the Customs Hall then follow the signs to the SkyTrain. Once at Terminal 8 you'll you'll clear TSA (Security) checkpoint and proceed to the gate for your connecting flight.

If your "checked" luggage has not been tagged through to your final destination and/or you do not have your boarding pass for your connecting flight proceed as above but when you exit the Customs Hall you'll have to take your luggage with you to Terminal 8, and stop at your airline's ticket counter to get your boarding pass and re-check your luggage before clearing TSA and proceeding to your connecting gate.

If you are scenario B - luggage not tagged through or no boarding pass for your 2nd flight then you should definitely check-in online before you board your 1st flight.

Then you will already have your boarding pass in hand and all you will need to do is drop off your bags at the check-in counter.

It may not save you time, but it will identify you as already checked in with the airline you are flying to Indiana.
