I am planning a short India trip and would like help finding the best places for me to go, considering I am a big animal lover and want to avoid places where I would likely see a huge amount of animal suffering. Seeing street animals is ok as long as they are not suffering terribly or really starving. Please respond if you know of some areas or cities that would be fine for me. Maybe most places in India would be fine? I can't seem to get much information on this topic. Udaipur was mentioned to me as a good possibility; are there others? thanks for any help.

I believe I've already answered this in another forum - where a lengthy thread developed!

My original reply - mistreatment by neglect or ignorance is commonplace in India (of animals and people). Deliberate cruelty is not obvious - but life expectation statistics tell their own story.

You will see many neglected, scaby dogs, and in some places many genuinely hungry children and adults.

it is a long time since i was in India but then "animal suffering" was rife whether intentional or by neglect. short of travelling around blindfolded, i doubt you could miss it entirely. India may not be the place for you. Personally, i would be more concerned about the treatment of India's people, particularly the women. Misogyny seems to be the norm in that country.

I would think that seeing the human suffering might be more upsetting. I agree with obione, "mistreatment by neglect or ignorance is commonplace in India (of animals and people). Deliberate cruelty is not obvious."

If not seeing suffering is what you want, either human or animal then think about another destination.
