Firsst time visiting Scotland
Hello, we plan to visit Scotland and previously spend aprox four nights in London and another coming back before flying back. We are two couples (40-45 ) and thought of driving .
We have doubts about our itinerary , can you suggest a reasonable one, interest in history, and to get acquainted with this great Nation, my grand grand father came from there, his last name is Callander. However this is our first time over. Also I would love to have some hotel or b&b recommendations. Thank you.

Tell us what you were thinking and we can help you refine/improve/change it. But create one out of thin air -not w/o lots more info from you. Like When, how many days, where the ancestors lived, your budget, etc.

That's the step that comes after a semi-firm-ish itinerary is in place.

Driving in Scotland makes huge sense -- except for IN Edinburgh and Glasgow. But driving up from London might or might not make sense. Depends on how many weeks you have total.
And of course - you probably will want to stay a couple of nights in/near Callander - which is in a lovely part of the country.

How long do you have? What are your interests? If just London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, then a car is not needed. Parking costs alone would be more than the rental, probably. If you wish to go further afield, I would recommend Thurso. Castle May is a good 3 hour tour, and taking the ferry and a bus tour ride to the Orkney islands is a real treat. A place to stay in Thurso is www.thursobayholidays.co.uk. We have used them for the past 2 summers and really enjoyed them. Wick is a neat little town to visit too. Just driving around the area is wonderful also. Great scenery.

Also when are you going? August is when the Edinburgh Festival takes place. You'd need to look for accommodations immediately. They book up as much as a year ahead of time. How much do you want to spend per room per night?
It would make sense to fly on to Scotland directly upon your arrival, travel there, then go back to London by car or train (or plane). That avoids the inefficiency of 2 separate stays in London.

Hello, thank you for your advice. We are planing to go in June. We are flying from BUenos Aires,
we are still in the early planning stages, I will post later when we know more what we would like to do.
Many British companies were pioneers in railways, gas, water etc , my great grand father
I made a mistake before, he was my grandmother's father, guess this makes him my great grand father came to Montevideo with the Briiish gas company. He married and had three absolutely beautiful daughters all to be married and live in Montevideo. Initially we were a Spanish colony but the British were involved in all those services also in meat packing, and tennis and soccer.
Thus ome the most famous Argentine socce teamid called River Plate in English.
It is with great tenderness that we all recall our ancestors, same in Argentina.
