Fodor's Review:
The nicely refurbished rooms at this small hotel have an art deco feel. The property is close to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the Avenue of the Arts, and most downtown attractions. It has a largely gay clientele, and is near some of the city's gay bars.

We stay at the Alexander Inn every time we visit Philly, which is a couple times a year. The location is great and within walking distance to everything you would want to do in Center City. The staff is friendly, and the continental breakfast setup is one of the best I've seen in a long while.RATING: 4.8

The Alexander Inn is an amazing hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable (and soundproof!), the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the location is wonderful. Philadelphia is a great "wallking city", especially when your base of operations is conveniently located, as is the Alexander Inn. The breakfast buffet was just the right way to start our day. Excellent coffee! We would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful hotel.RATING: 5.0
Amazing Value at this Elegant Little Hotel

When we booked, we were pleasantly surprised to find such reasonable rates at a quality hotel in central Philadelphia. When we arrived and saw just how charming the building and decor are--and how convenient the location is and how pleasant the immediate neighborhood is--we realized just what a find this place is! Oh, and despite the old-fashioned charm of the building, the hotel is modernized to the point of in-room wireless access.RATING: 4.4

On each of several statys, I have found the Alexander Inn to be excellent ... beautilful, clean rooms and courteous and friendly staff. The Inn also supplies a wonderful breakfast buffet.RATING: 5.0

We had an awful experience and would not recommend this hotel to anyone. For starters, our hotel room was incredibly dirty. There was a high film of dust covering everything from tables, shelves to counters. The sheets were off white and dingy and, on top of that, had holes in them. The sheets wouldn't stay on the bed while sleeping and we woke up several times partially sleeping on an uncovered mattress, which reeked of urine. I even got a rash on my arm afterwards. Also, at one point, our toilet clogged. We called the front desk and were told we could come down and get a plunger and fix the toilet ourselves. As for the "nonsmoking" part, on our first night there was smoke wafting in from one of the rooms on our hall. We had to place a towel under the door. Also, there was construction going on outside all night, which didn't lend to getting much sleep. Don't stay there if you want to have anything close to a good time.RATING: 1.0
