Tina's Review

Chef-proprietors Tina and David Bergen bring a powerful one-two punch to this Dundee favorite that often lures Portlanders away from their own restaurant scene. The couple shares cooking duties—Tina does the baking and is often on hand to greet you, and David brings his experience as a former caterer and employee of nearby Sokol Blosser Winery to the table, ensuring that you have the right glass of wine to match your course. Fish and game vie for attention on the country-French menu: entrees might include grilled Oregon salmon or Alaskan halibut, or a braised rabbit, local lamb, or tenderloin. Avail yourself of any special soups, particularly if there's corn chowder in the house. The lunch menu includes soup, sandwiches, and creative salads with local, seasonal ingredients. Service is as intimate and laid-back as the interior. A double fireplace divides the dining room, with heavy glass brick shrouded by bushes on the highway side, so you're not bothered by the traffic on Highway 99.

    Simply the Best!!!

There are tons of people that will give you advice, I will only write about my personal experiences. I am not someone that writes a critique of a restaurant or travel article unless something exceptional happens.

    December 13th, 2008
It happened again… This is the third time that my wife and I have been to Tina’s Restaurant in Dundee, Oregon. It started with a phone call two weeks ago to make reservations for a birthday party of 11. I told them that my wife and I had eaten there several years ago and I still dream of the Beef Tenderloin with a Port wine sauce that knocked my socks off. He told me that he would be sure to have that on the menu that night for us. And then we started going thru the menu to tailor make it to what my wife and I like, amazing!!! Last time I checked…. Hmmm… let’s see, the last time I got to chose what was on the menu was my wedding!
We did have a problem ordering the Appetizer’s. There were too many good choices and not enough people in our party to order one of everything. Bacon wrapped scallops (perfect!), Warmed Cypress Grove chevre with roasted garlic (excellent) and the Pan-fried Wilapa Bay oysters with sorrel mayonnaise (my favorite!), but I understand that not everyone loves oysters which is ok because that leaves more for me.
We had been wine tasting that afternoon and had enough so we ordered drinks. This usually is a breaking point for most restaurants; they are either not very good or too weak. They did not have Clamato juice (because I forgot to prompt them for it) so my wife could not have a bloody Caesar. She had to settle for a regular bloody Mary (too bad Canadien…).
The Filet Mignon with port wine sauce was out of this world! Morton’s, Ruth’s Chris, El Gaucho… take note, you can have a great steak but finish it off with an incredible sauce and that is magic! Enough about me, I tried the duck and that was also great. Everyone at our table was arguing who’s was the best and trying each others. Remember I had said how good the scallops were? Well, I was told that the dinner was better, to which I said was impossible, but I was way too full by that point to prove them wrong! We all ordered coffees and espresso which we never do, evidently I was not the only one that was sleepy after eating too much…
To finish things off… the service was excellent, the décor was quaint and the fireplace puts it over the top, warm, friendly and inviting! Oh yeah, the food I will dream of again until I can get back there again!
