Chicago Catch 35

Updated 06/11/2013

Fodor's Review

You can eavesdrop on advertising types who do the after-five mix-and-mingle at this spot on the ground floor of the Leo Burnett Building. When it comes to the menu, there's no shortage of choices: fish and shellfish entrées come in various preparations, from grilled to seared to baked. Classic seafood appetizers are delivered with a twist, such as coconut- and beer-battered shrimp, giant surf clams with ginger-chili aioli, and seared scallop pot stickers. The restaurant,

with its marble, granite, and beautifully set woodwork, is an inviting space to relax, and the multilevel dining room provides plenty of eye candy, plus glimpses of the Chicago River beyond. There is a local jazz trio on Tuesday through Saturday evenings.

Very nice but pricey seafood with an Asian flair

This review applies only to the Naperville location. I have eaten there twice and I have generally been pleased. For the midwest, this is a very nice seafood house. The owner is Thai so there is an Asian touch to many of the dishes. The service and preparation have been very professional. The prices do tend to be high so if value is high on your agenda, then I would look elsewhere.

Catch 35, Missed Hundreds

Our visit in January '05 before going to the theater was shocking, given their reputation. Food was flavorful, service was adequate. But the lobster and shrimp with the ravioli were both tough. When the waiter AND the hotess asked how things were, I replied "OK" in a disappointing tone. Neither cared enough to ask why I wouldn't rate it better. I asked if the owners were local, and the hostess was unsure. When I did express my specific concerns, the

coat check assistant said, "Well, you can't please everybody." Sounds like serious morale problems here. I have vowed to tell the hundreds of people I know who go to Chicago for trade shows not to expect a pleasing experience at Catch 35. And of course they will not be included in the dining directroy we produce for the next show (distributed to tens of thousands).

Excellent seafood near theater district

Excellent seafood - also offers non seafood options. Great place to go either before or after a show in the loop theater district.
