The hearty breakfasts served until 3 PM are the reason to eat at this homey café in a 100-year-old, four-square house. The restaurant advertises Cold coffee and surly service, but it exceeds expectations. Omelets are hot and fluffy, potatoes savory and crisp, and the buttery coffee cake is laced with spices and nuts. The cappuccinos are crafted carefully, with perfectly frothy caps. Have a light breakfast of home-baked pastries at the coffee bar, or eat in the sunny dining room, which houses an eclectic collection of antique wooden tables. Don't miss the humorous black-and-white photographs of toasters.

Burnt Customer

the owner of the restaurant refused my request for a sleeve or extra cup requested for a hot paper cup of coffee. He grumbled about wasted trees. When I made a second request, he literally threw the cup at me and it bounced off the bar. I was astonished and certainly will not return. Food was not made available to me and I will therefore rate it a 1

I went to a Mustache Bash here that was so much fun! a band played and we had great food and wonderful drinks. Sunday mornings are often very crowded, but the changing menu and good coffee make it a regular stop.

Burned by Burned Toast

I had been looking forward to visiting Burned Toast for quite some time so when a dance concert was scheduled at CU nearby, it seemed to be a good time to try it out. We made reservations with plenty of time to dine before the concert, but the reservations seemed to be unnecessary. We were told to seat ourselves and no wait person was available for over ten minutes. No water, no menus, nothing. Since we were on a tight time schedule we asked someone if we could at least have some menus to look at and we were told that there weren't any. No apologies or alternate explanations, just "no". We explained about the dance concert and the response was "everyone is going to the dance concert." I'm not sure what that meant, but the message was clearly that there were no menus and that the staff clearly didn't have any intention of doing anything that might lead up to actually serving dinner. We waited a while longer, then finally left and went across the street to the Sink.
We were very disappointed in Burned Toast and will clearly never go back. It's kind of sad.
Note: The Fodors system requires that raters give a rating for food. I gave Burned Toast a "1" because no food was provided. Who knows... it may have been good, but I will never find out.

Eat here, it's amazing! Warm, friendly, excellent food and a great staff. The service can be slow, but the ambiance is such that you don't want to leave. I would recommend this place to everyone!
