Stocking Island
Stocking Island Review
Slightly more than a mile off George Town's shore lies Stocking Island. The 4-mi-long island has only 10 inhabitants, the upscale Hotel Higgins Landing, lots of walking trails, a gorgeous white beach rich in seashells and popular with surfers on the ocean side, and plenty of good snorkeling sites. Jacques Cousteau's team is said to have traveled some 1,700 feet into Mystery Cave, a blue-hole grotto 70 feet beneath the island. Don't miss Chat 'N' Chill, a lively open-air restaurant and bar right on the point. Volleyball games, board games under the trees, and the new Conch Bar make for fun in the sun. The restaurant picks up guests at Government Dock on the hour. Club Peace and Plenty's ferry runs over to Stocking Island twice daily at 10 am and 1 pm and charges $12 for nonguests. Near the Stocking Island pier, Peace and Plenty Beach Club provides changing rooms (with plumbing) and operates a lunch spot where Dora's hamburgers and famous conch burgers are the eats of choice. Stocking Island is the headquarters for the wildly popular George Town Cruising Regatta.
