Azul and Viva

Azul and Viva Review

In creating his continent-hopping New World cuisine, owner Eduardo Vargas drew upon his globe-trotting childhood and seven years as a restaurant consultant in Asia. As a result, the menus in Azul, the tapas bar downstairs, and Viva, the restaurant upstairs, feature a delicious, delicate balance of flavors that should please any palate. Classics like beef carpaccio contrast cutting-edge dishes like coffee-glazed pork. Lunch and weekend brunch specials are lower priced. The relaxed, romantic interior—dim lighting, plush pillows, and splashes of color against muted backdrops—invites you to take your time on your culinary world tour.

Worthy of a Fodor's star? Not really. The ceviches are unexciting and sadly tiresome after only a couple of bites. The drinks - oh, the drinks - they were all out of the ones we wanted, and returned multiple times asking us to change them. If in the area on a late evening out, Azul/Viva is OK - but otherwise we would not bother tracking down again.
