Subway Travel

Santiago's subway system is the best way to get around town. The metro costs between 580 and 690 pesos per ride (depending on time of day and bus transfers). You can buy a single-use ticket or a smart (BIP) card. The metro is safe but gets very crowded at peak hours, and you should keep a hand on valuables. The system operates weekdays 5:40 am–11:30 pm, weekends 8 am–11 pm, with some variation depending on the metro line. Metro opening and closing hours are listed at each station above the turnstiles.
