Fodor's Review

A tropical garden filled with exotic plants, monkeys, and birds is the spectacular setting for this family restaurant serving pan-Brazilian dishes. The owner and chef, Ana Castilha, hails from Minas Gerais but received her formal training at New York City's French Culinary Institute. As a delightful consequence, there's a French twist to dishes she has created with native ingredients, among them baked palm heart with pesto, basil, and cashews. The award-winning wine list includes many artisan Brazilian bottles, and their high quality may surprise those who have dismissed the country's wines. Dine in one of the straw-roofed gazebos to enjoy excellent views of downtown and Guanabara Bay, keeping an eye out for toucans overhead. By night hanging lanterns and twinkling fairy lights create a magical atmosphere in the garden. Call ahead to reserve, as opening hours can be erratic.
