4 Best Hotels in Tarija, Southern Bolivia

This stylish boutique hotel, run by a New Zealand couple, is the best place to stay in town. The interiors throughout this renovated old home are beautifully designed. The guest rooms are charming, with wooden floors, well-chosen furniture, and huge welcoming beds that pamper with possibly the best sheets in all of Bolivia. Bathrooms are cool and spacious.

Just out of town, La Pasarela offers a complete boutique hotel and spa experience for those looking to kick back and relax in this beautiful part of Bolivia. There is plenty of hiking and biking to do in the area, and there's even a small waterfall nearby. If you're not up for adventure, La Pasarela offers everything you could hope for to relax and idle away your time—sauna and hot tub, swimming pool, hammocks, an expansive DVD collection, and a good set of board games. Rooms are rustic, spacious, and well designed (each with its own personality) and have stunning views over the valley.

The five-star luxury offered by Los Parrales belongs to an earlier era and the facilities are all somewhat aged, but the service is excellent and friendly and the rooms spacious, some with great views over the Guadalquivir River. The expansive manicured gardens and large swimming pool are great for relaxing. The center of town is far—about 3.5 km (2.17 miles) from the hotel, so expect to pay around (Bs)15 for a taxi.

A modern, well-designed small hotel, Terravina is an excellent option near central Tarija. The rooms are comfortable, complete with sofa, desk, and a compact but good bathroom. The decor (with wall-size wine-themed photos behind the bed) may not be to everyone's taste.
