Tysons Corner Center

Virginia's largest shopping mall houses more than 300 stores, from department stores like Macy's, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's to specialty shops like Lululemon and Apple. A true destination mall, retail is only one of the draws here. You'll find more than 50 eateries and restaurants, like seafood centric Coastal Flats and Shake Shack, a 16-screen AMC Theatre, and a Hyatt Regency hotel. An outdoor plaza has concerts, a kids zone, and ice skating in winter. Traffic is extremely heavy around the evening rush.

Tysons Galleria

Across a busy highway from Tysons Corner Center, the Galleria has about 100 generally upscale retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Versace, and Neiman Marcus. There are a handful of average-to-good restaurants (like Maggiano's Little Italy), fast-food outlets, and a few local spots like Founding Farmers and American Eats Tavern by star chef Joséé Andrés. A Ritz-Carlton Hotel is located here, too.

Una Mae's

Wicker Park

This Wicker Park favorite is bursting at the seams with affordable styles for guys and girls. The accessories here, often even more fun than the clothing, may include vintage bow ties, Pendleton blankets, backpacks, and incredibly colorful jewelry. A room packed with vintage clothes hides down a creaky flight of stairs.

Uncommon James

The Gulch

Laguna Beach alum Kristin Cavallari relocated to Nashville in 2017 and opened her posh boutique soon after. You can snag a piece from her understated jewelry collection, in-house skin-care line, a branded tote or hat, or a few choice home goods characterized by clean lines and copper accents. Regardless of what you pick up, rest assured it will be chic and Instagram-ready.

Undefeated

Paradise Road

Las Vegas has its own branch of this small West Coast–centric chain, with a location in a strip mall near Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. It's the authority on premium sneakers and street wear, from retro Jordans to a pair of Bad Bunny–branded Adidas. Look for classic brands sitting next to limited-edition pieces, as well as Undefeated, their own label.

Underthings

Lincoln Park

For over 40 years this small but well-stocked boutique has furnished locals with pretty but functional bras, panties, and pajamas as well as sexy lingerie. Nowadays, owner Maria Ashby reports outfitting the offspring of her original customers---a testament to her personable service.

underU4men

Unika

A longtime fashion resident of Coconut Grove (circa 1989), Unika takes shoppers from day to night, and all affairs in between, with a wide range of inventory for men and women. The contemporary boutique has an it-girl vibe, but the cool, relaxed one you’d actually want to be friends with. High–low pricing appeases all budgets; expect to uncover up-and-coming designer gems tucked within the racks of well-known brands. Bonus: the staff is great with styling for a head-to-toe look.

Union Market

Capitol Hill

Arriving in 2012, massive Union Market is a feast for the senses that’s a favorite destination for locals and out-of-town visitors alike. The space offers a smorgasbord of food and drink options, from sushi and piping hot empanadas to Bloody Marys and fish-and-chips. There are butchers and bakers and candles (though not candlestick makers—yet), as well as cheese vendors, microbrewed coffee, and a shop selling spices you’ve never heard of. It’s all made the market enormously popular, particularly on weekends, when parents descend to sip espresso while the youngsters bound around a generous outdoor seating area that features a host of lawn games.

Union Market is part of the new, buzzing Union Market District, filled with restaurants; a pop-up movie theater, the Angelika, which shows new releases and classic favorites; and La Cosecha, a contemporary Latin market two blocks away.

Union Rose

For distinctive women's fashion and accessories designed and made in Portland, check out this boutique in up-and-coming Montavilla. Though there are scores of dresses for any season, including a very good selection of dresses and skirts in plus sizes, there's also plenty of everyday wear, like hoodies and hats.

United Apparel Liquidators

Hillsboro Village

If you're looking to score a killer deal on designer clothing, look no further than United Apparel Liquidators (UAL for short). This small Southern chain has locations in 12South and West End, with Hillsboro Village's being the smallest. Universal Studios Store

Universal Studios

Like Disney's Emporium in the Magic Kingdom, this sizable store is the last retail outlet you see before exiting the park. Although it doesn't have all the merchandise sold in individual park gift shops, as the park's central shopping destination it does have most of it—and some of the best, including T-shirts, stuffed animals, hats, backpacks, gifts, mugs, and limited-edition Universal trading pins. A big plus is that even if you don't visit IOA, you'll find some of the popular merchandise that's sold primarily at the neighboring park.

University Book Store

University District

UW's bookstore sells the requisite textbooks in the basement, but that's just part of it's identity. Upstairs, the well-stocked general book department (run by Barnes & Noble) is the site of author events throughout the year, and there's every imaginable type of Huskies memorabilia, from sweatshirts to mouse pads to shot glasses.

University Co-Op

University of Texas Area

The beating burnt-orange heart of Longhorn Nation is on display at this emporium of UT paraphernalia, located in the middle of the Drag on campus. You can find Longhorn-logoed everything at this three-level department store founded in 1896 after a similar co-op at Harvard, from Crocs and floral dresses to $350 pairs of burnt-orange Lucchese cowboy boots. Even if you have no direct (or indirect) connection to UT, stop in if you're in the neighborhood to snag your own UT memento.

University District Farmers' Market

University District

One of the country's longest-running farmers' markets and Seattle's largest "farmers only" market (no crafts, imports, or flea-market finds) operates year-round on Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm in the heart of the U-District, rain or shine. With more than 50 Washington State farmers and producers participating, you'll find a great selection of produce, baked goods, preserves, flowers, cheese, soups, pies, wines, pasta, and handmade chocolates.

University Place

Catering to the needs of BYU students, this mall also has everything from fashion retailers like Dillard's and H&M to footwear and furniture—more than 150 shops and restaurants in all. The mall is open Monday through Saturday 10--9.

University Village

University District

This upscale, open-air mall has "University" in its name because of its location, northeast of the UW campus, but you won't see a lot of students here. Clientele are mainly residents of the well-to-do surrounding neighborhoods, drawn by a long list of familiar chains (Williams-Sonoma, Banana Republic, L'Occitane, Sephora, Warby Parker, H&M, Madewell, Apple, Anthropologie, Kiehl's) mixed with some local favorites (including candy wonderland The Confectionery and artsy gift shop Fireworks). There are also good dining options, including the enormously popular international dumpling chain Din Tai Fung. Overall, it's a pleasant shopping experience, but a bit conventional by Seattle standards and a whole different world from the rest of the U-District.
