The Wine Room

Palo Alto’s favorite gathering spot for wines from around the world is this cozy, quirky cottage that looks as if it was lifted out of the Cotswolds. Seating arrangements include several comfortable couches that are popular with date nights. The staff is very knowledgeable about the wines and happy to offer recommendations since the extensive menu can be wonderfully intimidating.

Wise Man Brewing

Downtown

Winston-Salem's downtown brewery scene is geographically compact yet expansive in variety, and Wise Man is arguably the best among a strong pack of contenders. Choose from more than 20 rotating brews, like the punch-packing Body Electric double IPA or the Sufficient Wit Belgian witbier, and grab a seat at any of the shaded picnic tables lining the warehouselike brick taproom.

Wissahickon Brewing Company

East Falls

In the adjacent neighborhood of East Falls, tucked partway down a hillside, you'll find this beer lovers' gem. They don't serve food, but most days there's food trucks. Mornings, it serves coffee as Wirlybird Coffee, and Tuesdays at 7:30 am there's yoga (see website to reserve a spot).

Recommended Fodor's Video

Wonderly

This dapper yet unpretentious neighborhood lounge anchored by a horseshoe-shaped bar is known for its generously poured "martini-and-a-half" and "Manhattan-and-a-half" cocktails, which are sure to calm your nerves after a long day. Folks also pile in for arguably the best bar food in Beaumont—the seared scallop with an egg, beet puree, and capers is a standout.

Woodlawn Tap

Hyde Park

At this favored no-frills tavern, locals and university students gather for beer, burgers, and Reuben sandwiches. Every second Sunday night, there's a free-form blues jam session followed by live jazz.

The Woods

Hollywood

Don’t let the forest fairy-tale vibe—one that'll make you think that a woodsman fell in love with a tree nymph and then went on to open a bar—or the baffling strip mall location fool you. When the occasion calls for it, this little dive bar knows how to throw a party and show you a good time with the simple concoction of jukebox music, DJ spins, daily happy hour until 10 pm, and signature drinks.

Woodstock Playhouse

Dating from 1938, this handsome arts complex hosts top-notch performances in music, theater, film, and dance. There are also two spacious galleries showcasing works by local and regional artists. The great lawn is a great place for a picnic before a performance and attractions like the annual British Car Show.

Woody's

Midtown Village & The Gayborhood

Philadelphia's most popular gay nightlife destination is spread over two levels, offering several bars—with monitors playing music videos and campy moments from TV shows and movies—and a large dance floor upstairs. Theme nights include Latin music on Thursday and house, EDM, and hip-hop on Friday.

Woody's Brewing Company

A fun downtown hangout with a party vibe, Woody's has built a loyal following for its Bavarian soft pretzels (served with beer cheese), special-recipe tater tots, and range of beers from fruited wheat ales to an unfiltered dry-hopped IPA and the Pray for Powder porter. Sandwiches, worthy burgers, pizza, and fish-and-chips are also on the menu.

Woody's Tavern

A staple with Moab locals and visitors alike, Woody's is a unpretentious spot to grab a cold beer in the center of town. The bar's exterior has a Wild West saloon flavor (complete with a fake front), and its interior is more modern but downhome, with pool tables, foosball, and a long wooden bar where you can order a domestic or craft Utah brew. It often hosts karaoke and live music, too. Expect big crowds during Moab's busiest times, especially the Easter Jeep Safari.

The World Famous Parrot

Beachfront

A venerable Fort Lauderdale hangout, this dive bar–sports bar is particularly popular with Philadelphia Eagles fans and folks reminiscing about the big hair and spray tans of '80s Fort Lauderdale (aka its heyday). This place is stuck in the past, but it's got great bartenders, wings, chicken fingers, poppers, and skins. 'Nuff said.

The Wormhole

With cheap drinks and a stage that's always occupied by local bands, comedians, and occasional special guests, the Wormhole cultivates a proud dive vibe. No pretensions or fancy craft cocktails here, just a bar stool with your name on it. There's also a full kitchen offering burgers and other bar snacks until the wee hours.

The Wreck Bar

Beachfront

Travel back in time to the '50s at this "under the sea" dive bar and seafood eatery at B Ocean Resort, where huge aquariums and a porthole show off live mermaids, who perform an underwater series of tangos and group ensembles dressed in sparkling fishtails. These late-night, aqua burlesque shows take place in the pool on Friday and Saturday.

Wusong Road Tiki Bar

Harvard Square

Recently named one of the most beautiful restaurants in America by People magazine, this hidden-away gem is all about escaping with a tropical tiki. Drinks include the Scorpion Bowl, made with Appleton estate rum, lemon, mango, orange, pineapple, and hibiscus grenadine, as well as the Jungle Bird, a marriage of two types of rum, Campari, pineapple and lime juices, and demerara syrup. The menu offers up Asian American bites, such as a pupu platter that can also be made vegan, short rib lo mein, and Aloha sliders.

Wynwood Brewing Company

This family-owned craft brewery is hidden among Wynwood's towering walls of graffiti arts. Communal tables and ever-changing pop-up galleries by neighborhood artists make the taproom cozy; however, a peek through the window behind the bar reveals there is much more to the establishment: 15 pristine silver vats are constantly brewing variations of blond ale, IPA, barrel-aged strong ales, seasonal offerings, and national Gold Medalist the robust Pop's Porter. All staff members are designated “Beer Servers” under the Cicerone Certification Program, ensuring knowledgeable descriptions and recommendations to your liking.

Yamashiro Hollywood

Hollywood

Modeled after a mansion in Kyoto, this Japanese place with a hillside perch has spectacular koi ponds and gardens, as well as sweeping views of Hollywood's twinkling lights. Additional lures here include the tasty, if pricey, food and delicious drinks but the views, especially at sunset, are Yamashiro's draws.  The mandatory valet parking costs $20.

Yard Bar

North Austin

You don't have to bring a dog to be a patron at Austin's first hybrid restaurant, bar, and dog-park, off Burnet Road. The shaded outdoor patio is a great place to people- and puppy-watch while you chow down on sliders and fries served at the on-site Fat City walk-up window. Find several local beers on draft here, too, plus seasonal cocktails and cheap tall boys.

Ye Rustic Inn

Los Feliz

Ye Rustic Inn has the vibes of a dingy, non-fussy dive bar, but it’s the wings that turns newcomers into regulars. Available dry or drenched in hot sauce, a plate of 12 (extra crispy recommended!) is perfect for two hungry travelers who want some nosh to go with the baseball or football games that the bar shows on their large TV. Ye Rustic Inn is also beloved for its early opening hours and being one of the only restaurants and bars around to open on major holidays; they even serve turkey and ham dinners on Thanksgiving.

Zelick's Icehouse

Set in an eye-catching 1930s service station with a brick exterior, Zelick’s Icehouse features plenty of modern touches like craft beer, cocktails made with fresh-squeezed juices, and a food truck serving burgers, tacos, and more. The rustic interior is certainly a draw, but so is the spacious exterior, which wraps around the building with loads of outdoor seating and space for groups, live music, and playing popular Texas games like horseshoes and cornhole.

Artillery

Historic District
One of Savannah's most beautiful bars, Artillery is housed in a historic landmark built by a volunteer militia group of mounted rangers in 1896. Now, Daniel Reed Hospitality embraces 18th-century-style and modern design elements in its sumptuously restored space. Settle in and buzz a waiter with the push of a call button to order from the expansive wine list, the classic cocktail menu (they make an excellent Manhattan), or the contemporary cocktail selection (Bit of a Pickle is an unusually delicious choice with gin, lemon, white balsamic vinegar, cucumber, dill and cracked pepper.) Expert drinks and great conversation are champion here, and proper attire is a must (no cut-offs, tank tops; flip-flops strongly discouraged; no hats)—and make sure you silence your phone once inside.
