Fodor's Expert Review Prince Solms Inn
295 E. San Antonio St., New Braunfels, Texas, USA
Named for Prince Carl Solms, the German prince from Braunfels Castle who founded New Braunfels, this historic inn—the longest-running hotel in the area—has been lovingly restored to reflect its original Victorian charm. (The suite is very comfortable, with a nice-sized living room.) Built in 1898, each room now has a private bathroom, and there’s a speakeasy in the basement, where guests can toddle down for a nightcap and not have to travel very far to get back home.
PROS
- Speakeasy in the basement for a nightcap
- Excellent staff
- Beautiful Victorian restoration
CONS
- A bit outside the town center
- Some rooms on the small(ish) side
- Some rooms get noise from the bar next door
