Getting Oriented in Guadalupe Mountains National Park

  • Guadalupe Peak. This pinnacle tops 8,700 feet. The seven-hour-plus round-trip to the summit offers breathtaking views of New Mexico and southwestern Texas.
  • McKittrick Canyon. In fall, the lush green foliage along McKittrick Canyon's trout-filled desert stream bursts into many hues.
  • El Capitan. This impressive 3,000-foot cliff dominates the southern skyline of the Guadalupe Range.
  • Dog Canyon. Just over the New Mexico border, this tranquil, forested high-desert wilderness contains a scenic campground and trails, including the trek to 7,830-foot Lost Peak.
  • Frijole Ranch History Museum. This easily accessible former ranch home is the oldest intact structure in the park, set amid several rock-walled outbuildings and a shaded, landscaped yard.
