The Yellow House on Plott Creek Road

89 Oak View Dr., at Plott Creek Rd., 1 mile west of Waynesville, Waynesville, North Carolina, 28786, USA

Just outside town, this lovely two-story Victorian, painted a sunflower yellow, sits on 5 acres on a low knoll, with colorful surrounding gardens and hammocks under shady trees. The rooms and suites are named for and decorated to evoke other destinations, from Savannah to the Caribbean island of Saba to E'staing, France. Most rooms have fireplaces, and some suites have whirlpool baths. Rooms in the adjoining Pond House are even more private than those in the main house. Plott Creek Road, by the way, was named for the Plott hound, the state dog of North Carolina, a breed that was developed near The Yellow House to hunt coons and bears.
