Fodor's Expert Review Wrightsville Beach
Clean, wide beaches here provide the setting for all sorts of water sports. Surfers dominate fine morning waves while newbies take lessons on the beach before hitting the respectable swells. Kayakers, parasailers, paddleboarders, bodyboarders, and windsurfers all share the waters here while shoreline runners and walkers hit the sand, which is also perfect for sunbathing, sand-castle building, and people-watching. Anglers can cast lines from the surf or the Johnny Mercer concrete fishing pier. Get to the beach early; parking lots jam up, and most of the 1,500 metered spaces are taken by 9 am in summer. Keep time on the meters; parking enforcement is strict. All pets must be on leashes. Amenities: food and drink; lifeguards (Memorial Day to Labor Day); parking (fee); toilets. Best for: sunrise; sunset; surfing; swimming; windsurfing.
