After a succeessful career working for Whole Foods Market, Otto Leuschel decided to open an old-style grocery store in the tiny center of Germantown, 10 miles south of Hudson. Despite its small size, Otto's has an amazing selection of products ranging from grocery staples like Tide and Oreos to more exotic fare like British condiments and European jams. There's an excellent selection of international and local cheeses as well as other great Hudson Valley products. There's also a full deli in the back and two café tables in the front. Leuschel recently opened a variety store across the street that sells everything from cosmetics to hammers.

Paper Trail

This wonderfully curated emporium sells elegant stationery, wedding invitations, and greeting cards, as well as a quirky and stylish selection of books, toys, home decor, candles, scarves, and travel accessories.

Pickwick Book Shop

A Nyack landmark since opening in 1945, this charming little store is full of hard-to-find titles, including many by local authors detailing the history of the Hudson Valley. It's an especially great destination for area hiking maps.

Punch

This corner shop offers a fabulous array of eclectic goods for the home, self, and garden. You'll find everything from children's clothes and Buddha statues to Hunt Country furniture and elegant jewelry. Rhinebeck Antiques Fair

One of the best-known and -loved antiques fairs in the country, the Rhinebeck Antiques Fair showcases more than 200 dealers in four large exhibition halls. The fair, held twice a year (in May and October), interests both casual and serious collectors.
