Amtrak. Amtrak has daily service between Gallup and Albuquerque, as well as service from Lamy, near Santa Fe, on the Southwest Chief. Taking a train into Gallup (sit in the Observation car) and renting a car there to explore western New Mexico is an alternative. 800/872–7245; www.amtrak.com.
