The Calvert Hotel

$$ | 216 7th Ave. S, Lewistown, MT, USA

This three-story brick building with a big black awning was built in the early 1920s as a dormitory to house high school students. It's on the National Register of Historic Places, but since 2010, it's been the closest thing to a luxury boutique hotel that Lewistown has to offer. Think crisp white duvets, decorative throw pillows, Beekman 1802 toiletries, clawfoot tubs, pedestal sinks, and lots of decorative tile in lieu of cheap linoleum.

Pros

  • Good, old-fashioned customer service
  • Full hot breakfast with a nice variety of options
  • In-room Keurig

Cons

  • Rooms don't have microwaves
  • No pool or fitness center
  • No elevator

The Log House

$$$ | 677 Divide Rd., Lewistown, MT, 59457, USA

This little, albeit luxurious, log cabin 10 miles outside town sleeps four and has been rented out by the stars of the hit series Yellowstone, who have chosen to relax here when they’re not filming in western Montana. Handmade from local timber by the owners, it screams rustic, yet it’s outfitted with Wi-Fi, designer appliances, Pendleton blankets, luxury amenities, and custom furniture that almost counts as functional art. In addition to a queen-size bed downstairs, there’s a sleeping area for kids in the loft, a dining area with incredible views, a full kitchen including an antique sink, and a bathroom with the best showerhead in town.

Pros

  • Stocked with reading material and games
  • Outdoor firepit and furniture
  • Heated floors and wood-burning stove (firewood provided)

Cons

  • No TV
  • Not pet-friendly
  • Four-night minimum during the winter

Yogo Inn

$$ | 211 E. Main St., Lewistown, MT, 59457, USA

This sprawling brick hotel on the east side of Lewistown takes its name from the Yogo sapphires mined nearby. Rooms are contemporary, spacious, and well furnished; although some rooms don't have windows facing outside. Instead, they face an indoor courtyard with a swimming pool and hot tub. The hotel and convention center is built around the Centermark Courtyard, which takes its name from surveyor documents buried here in 1912: they proclaimed the spot the geographical center of Montana. Ask at the front desk for info about nearby ghost towns and Native American petroglyphs.

Pros

  • Borders the new rails-to-trails walking path
  • Indoor pool
  • Good on-site restaurant

Cons

  • Noise is an issue when it's busy
  • No elevator to reach second-floor rooms
  • Has an "old hotel" smell
