The Porches Inn at MASS MoCA is an intimate 47-room boutique property offering a modern retreat set amid New England mountains. The 1890s cottages have been restored and connected with one long porch—complete with rocking chairs—giving way to its name. The location and edgy, industrial meets retro decor attract urban tourists seeking a clear view of night skies and the desire to participate in the plethora of cultural activities, including those hosted by MASS MoCA across the street.
If your hip, artistically-minded friend designed a playful yet relaxed vacation spot, it would look like this. Rooms have a mix of retro 1940s and 1950s lamps and bungalow-style furnishings. Suites have pull-out sofas and can sleep up to six; some two-room suites have loft sleeping areas atop spiral staircases.
Pet-friendly rooms are available in one of the buildings, but guests must call ahead and book directly with Porches.
Bathrooms are bright and cheerful with either a clawfoot or Jacuzzi-style tub. Find plush bathrobes and high-end toiletries.
With a fireplace, comfy chairs, and books on the shelves, cozy up in the lobby with a drink or simply spend a few hours reading.
Enjoy year-round swimming in the heated, 14-by 38-ft heated outdoor pool which is surrounded by a radiant-heated stone patio. Guests can also access the hot tub and sauna. Changing rooms are located in adjacent Building Seven.
Dial up the front desk for in-room spa services by appointment.
A fully equipped, modern gym is available in the fitness center with large windows overlooking MASS MoCA.
Breakfast buffet provided daily. For lunch or dinner head to one of the nearby restaurants.
Hungry for breakfast but don't want to leave bed? Opt for a pot coffee and a croissant delivered you in one of the signature Porches steel lunchboxes.

WHY WE LIKE IT
A stay at Porches, especially during summer season, feels like a gathering of friends at a country house. The year-round heated pool and stone patio make a great place to read a book or chat with new friends over a cocktail from the lobby bar. Additionally, there's a wired woodland gazebo and bonfire pit that will have you reliving camp days with friends.
