9 Best Places to Shop in Bethesda, Montgomery County

Bethesda isn't known for bargains, although one of its best-known malls contains a Filene's Basement. Shoppers who love discounts should head north on Wisconsin Avenue to Rockville Pike (Route 355). Four of the area's seven regional malls are in Bethesda and the Chevy Chase section of Washington, D.C. Downtown Bethesda has no fewer than eight bookstores, including a huge Barnes & Noble.

Chevy Chase Pavilion

Across from Mazza Gallerie is the newer, similarly upmarket Chevy Chase Pavilion. Its women's clothing stores range from Alpaca International to JCrew and Stein Mart.

Filene's Basement

The Boston-based upscale fashion discounter attracts bargain hunters looking for steep discounts on designer clothing—if you find something that suits you, it'll be the best deal in town by far. Off-price shoes, children's clothing, household goods, perfume, and accessories are sold as well.
