Wander through the gardens, or stop into the shop, housed in a 19th-century farmhouse, for one-of-a-kind terra-cotta pots and elevated gifts for the garden, home, and bath. 

Splendiferous Sweet Shoppe

Said to be the world's only Alice in Wonderland--theme candy store, Splendiferous is tucked into a charmingly petite former bank building. You'll be greeted by the Queen of Hearts or Alice from behind a counter laden with excellent house-made chocolates. Choices include macaroons, macarons, turtles, filled chocolates, and needhams (an old-fashioned Maine coconut candy). A small, original vault is chockablock with "penny" candy. The ladies also serve ice cream that's churned just up the road in Ellsworth, and drinks made from locally roasted coffee. Ask to peek into the secret door at the end of the counter.

Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers

The creations of this nationally recognized, local furniture company are displayed in a beautifully restored 19th-century home about a block from Bean's. The two-floor showroom is filled with artful, finely crafted wood pieces that have clean, classic lines. If you'd like to see how the furniture is made, ask about tours given on Wednesday and Friday at the large workshop 30 minutes away in Auburn (by appointment only).

Wiscasset Bay Gallery

This fine-art gallery specializes in American and European paintings—often featuring Monhegan Island seascapes and landscapes—from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. ABOCA Beads

This candy store for those who love stringing their own necklaces is filled with a dazzling array of beads in a range of prices. Staffers are always happy to lend assistance, and you can sit down and create jewelry on the spot if you'd like. ABOCA also offers classes in its workshop behind the store.

Adam Gallery

This is where husband-and-wife artists Susan and Joshua Adams display and sell their oil paintings primarily showcasing landscapes.
