The rooms in this large, restored 1832 Colonial-style home and an attached carriage house are beautifully furnished with antiques. Some rooms have fireplaces and Jacuzzis; one has a small balcony overlooking the gardens that are tucked behind the inn. Just across the road, you can sink your toes into the sand on Lincolnville Beach. Or simply settle into the rockers on the front porch and watch the moon going down over the bay.

With nicely landscaped grounds and a quiet waterside location well off U.S. 1, the Victorian feels as if it’s a world away from all the hustle and bustle of town. Most rooms, as well as the wraparound porch, have magnificent views over island-studded Penobscot Bay. Romantic touches include some brass beds, white wicker furniture, and oriental rugs. Six guest rooms have fireplaces; four more fireplaces are in common rooms, including the glass-enclosed breakfast room. A multicourse breakfast includes a hot entrée and muesli with fruit, all prepared by the Swiss-American host. Afternoon cookies are served in the parlor or on the porch; hors d'oeuvres appear a little later.

The Youngtown Inn

Originally the farmhouse of a large poultry farm, this family-run B&B sits five miles inland from Camden near Lake Megunticook. New owners as of 2021 have given the six cozy guest rooms a soothing and comfortable update. Several rooms have a gas fireplace or private balcony. The restaurant and bar on the inn’s first floor is a good place to enjoy a glass of wine or a meal of Italian-inspired fare that uses many Maine-grown ingredients.
