Fodor's Expert Review Loews New Orleans Hotel

300 Poydras St., New Orleans, Louisiana 70130, USA See on Map

Cameron Todd

Centrally located in the CBD, this is large hotel with unique furnishings, a world-class spa, and good, consistent service. The bar and restaurant offer tasty and elegant options from the renowned Brennan Family restaurant group, all making this a chain hotel above the average offerings.

Larger-than-average rooms have comfy beds, flat-screened TVs, and views of the city.

Tiled bathrooms feature marble counter tops and bathtub/shower combinations.

Panoramic windows look out into the CBD in this comfy lobby, with unique features like a giant collage of New Orleans, a tropical fish tank-turned fireplace, and chess tables for guest's entertainment.

A tiled room and comfy, padded lounge chairs surround this sleek indoor pool, completing the spa atmosphere here.

An extensive spa offers facial, massage, waxing and nail services. Besides the heated indoor pool, the hotel offers a whirlpool and dry saunas.

Overlooking the indoor pool and a view of the Mississippi river, this gym is open until 10 p.m., features state-of-the-art machines, flat-screened TVs, and the option to schedule yoga classes or private trainer sessions.

Cafe Adeliade offers all the best New Orleans' classics (beignets for breakfast, po' boys for lunch, and gumbo for dinner). While it can't quite compare to the best fine dining of the city, its offerings are well above average for a hotel dining outlet.

This bar is swanky and well stocked, with live jazz on the weekends. On Thursday nights, make an indulgent reservation for a Chef's Table, a special private menu with drink pairings.

Getting Around

It's a 5-minute walk to St. Charles Avenue, where you can catch the streetcar going towards downtown/French Quarter or Uptown. It's about a 15-minute walk to the French Quarter.

Wood Pizza Bistro & Taphouse (10-minute walk) offers gourmet thin-crust pizzas in a casual atmosphere. At Cochon (10-minute walk) and the more casual Cochon Butcher next door, enjoy the best Cajun renditions of pork, game, and smoked meats.

On an unassuming corner in the Lower Garden District, Bakery Bar (16-minute walk) provides a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying both fabulous cocktails and decadent sweets. Local favorite Barrel Proof (15-minute walk) serves up a dark, intimate atmosphere, world-class whiskeys, and eclectic comfort food.

The staff here offer up the Southern hospitality and friendly, attentive service you would hope for at a New Orleans luxury hotel. Comfortable beds, fluffy towels, and stunning views of the river put this location in a category well beyond average.
