Fodor's Expert Review Tavern at the Park
Given its unique take on American classics and the splendid view of Chicago's Millennium Park, it would be a mistake to pass up this near–Michigan Avenue gem. Noise from the bar carries up to the second floor, giving this spacious restaurant a lively feel. The crab-stuffed artichokes and expertly fried calamari are perfect starters; mains run the gamut from Cajun-spiced grouper to butternut squash ravioli or the slow-roasted prime rib. Though many favor the warm blueberry-apple bread pudding for dessert, the towering carrot cake studded with pineapple and hazelnuts shouldn't be missed. Don't plan on a weekday lunch without a reservation—local businesspeople have made this their hangout.
