Residence Inn Santa Fe

$$ | 1698 Galisteo St., Santa Fe, NM, 87505, USA

This compound consists of clusters of three-story town houses with pitched roofs and tall chimneys. Best bets for families or up to four adults traveling together are the one-room penthouse suites, which each have a loft bedroom and a separate sitting area (with a curtain divider) that has a Murphy bed. All units have wood-burning fireplaces and there is a nice pool on the property. It's right off a major intersection about 3 miles south of the Plaza, but it's set back far enough that there's little regular traffic noise. Ask for one of the second-floor end units for the best mountain views.

Pros

  • Grocery-shopping service

Cons

The Resort at Longboat Key Club

$$$ | 220 Sands Point Rd., Longboat Key, FL, 34228, USA

There is debate about what attracts more guests to this spectacularly landscaped property–the 45 holes of challenging golf, the 20-court Tennis Gardens facility, or the 291-slip marina. It could also be the Island House Spa or the delicious dinner in the resort's Sand's Pointe, one of on-site six restaurants. Water is the test on both golf courses, which have excellent pro shops. Stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and bicycles are available. All rooms have balconies overlooking the golf course, the beach, or the private lagoon where manatees and dolphins are occasionally spotted. Golf and dining facilities are for guests and members only.

The Resort at Paws Up

$$$$ | 40060 Paws Up Rd., Greenough, MT, 59823, USA

This authentic cattle ranch of some 37,000 acres of forests and grasslands is the perfect place to try "glamping," though staying in one of the perma-tents at Paws Up is a long way from roughing it. Included in your stay is the use of an electric car to navigate around the expansive ranch, where you can fly-fish in the Blackfoot River, go horseback riding, or pamper yourself at "Spa Town." Something incorrect in this review?

Rio Las Vegas Hotel & Casino

$ | 3700 W. Flamingo Rd., Las Vegas, NV, 89103, USA

This sprawling resort with spacious rooms just west of the Strip was pioneering in its appeal to locals and visitors but fell on post-pandemic hard times before new owners, Dreamscape Cos., started sinking money into a complete renovation, but room renovations are still ongoing. By the end of 2024, the $350-million refurbishment was evident on the casino floor, with new furniture, carpeting, and wall coverings—even the new Lapa Lounge at the center of it all. The Rio's pioneering buffet became a permanent casualty of the pandemic (as did most Las Vegas buffets), but was replaced by the Canteen Food Hall, with sushi, ramen, and burgers among the choices. The sprawling pool area, another stand-out of the old days, received a complete overhaul as well. And after a five-year absence, the 51st-floor VooDoo Lounge reopened in early 2025. More than half of the rooms had been remodeled by the end of 2024 as well. The standard so-called \"suites\" don't actually have separate bedrooms, but they're spacious (at least 600 square feet), and higher-end units have double whirlpool tubs, wet bars, and other cushy touches. And the place makes up for its distance to the Strip by having plenty of entertainment options under one roof, including Penn & Teller, a family-friendly, old-school variety revue called Wow!, and a branch of New York's Comedy Cellar.

Pros

  • Spacious rooms with views
  • Several in-house show choices
  • Four pool areas

Cons

  • Just off-Strip enough to be inconvenient
  • Players club no longer part of larger network
  • Loss of signature restaurants and attractions

Occupying a new, luxury 50-story building at the northern end of NoMad, this sleek, all-glass hotel is a departure for the Ritz brand, thanks to its emerging neighborhood, versus tried and true, location. Its double height doors whisk guests into a soothing interior of neutral, light-filled rooms paired with a food and beverage program helmed by Michelin-starred chef José Andrés. Andrés ground-floor restaurant, Zaytinya, runs Mediterranean; The Bazaar mixes Spanish and Japanese influences; and his plush rooftop bar, Nubeluz, serves tapas and cocktails alongside floor-to-ceiling windows with near-panoramic views. As the name implies, the hotel is part residential condo and part resort, with studios and one- to three-bedroom suites that have gourmet kitchens and ocean views. On-site dining options include La Vie, which features a French tasting menu; Sushi Sho, a single-table gourmet experience; and Quiora, an Italian restaurant that sources ingredients locally. The hotel is also home to upscale grocer Dean & DeLuca, a 24-hour fitness center, and a luxury spa, and there's endless shopping in the immediate area.

  • Luxuriously appointed accommodations with kitchens
  • Pampering service and pools with views

Cons

  • Not close to the beach
  • Pricey, particularly given distance from beach
  • Families can sometimes overrun the facilities

Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta

$$$ | 181 Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA, 30303, USA

For a luxury experience with useful business amenities, the Ritz can't be beat. The size of the rooms is comparable to other Downtown properties but with business-minded touches such as a valet complete with shoeshine, and a desk with AV connections for in-room presentation prep. Try the on-site AG restaurant, which has a steak house focus, along with Southern-accented specialties like she-crab soup and fried green tomatoes. The eatery's terrace is one of Downtown's few outdoor dining spots. MARTA's Peachtree Center station is nearby.

Pros

  • Top-notch restaurant
  • Ideal for doing business Downtown
  • Impeccable service

Cons

  • The standard rooms can feel small and dated compared to newer options
  • Very expensive
  • Classic decor not for everyone
