You simply cannot get any closer to gorgeous Keawakapu Beach than this unsung hero of South Shore hotels, offering both renovated hotel rooms and condos that may be older than those of its competitors but are well priced and have marvelous ocean views, especially during the winter humpback whale season. One- and two-bedroom condos have private lanai and kitchens, and on-site amenities include a heated oceanfront pool, an activity desk, and a yoga studio.

Primarily a draw for business travelers, this hotel between Seaport Village and the convention center also works well for leisure and family travelers. A name like this is a lot to live up to, but the Manor generally succeeds: it's one of the region's most atmospheric inns, situated on a slight rise overlooking Squam Lake, with 15 acres of lawns, towering pines, and hardwood trees; the grand Van Horn Dining Room for refined contemporary fare; and a small but well-outfitted spa. There has been a hostelry on this conveniently located Main Street site just above Vineyard Haven Harbor since 1794.
