Fodor's Expert Review Hale Hoola Spa in Volcano

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Vicinity Spa/Beauty

Although this spa is located in a private home, those staying in Volcano have easy access to body treatments, massages, and facials at far more reasonable prices than on the other side of the island. Hale Hoola's menu features a bounty of local ingredients and traditional Hawaiian treatments, including lomi hula, which is lomilomi massage choreographed to hula music, and laau hamo, which blends lomilomi with traditional Hawaiian and Asian healing herbs and plant extracts. Popo kapai is a divine blend of hot-stone massage and laau hamo, incorporating lomilomi with warm compresses filled with healing herbs. Facials and body scrubs use traditional ginger, coconut, and macadamia nuts, but also some surprises, including taro, vanilla, and volcanic clay. Call ahead of time, as they don't accept walk-ins.
