Fodor's Expert Review Hollander Hotel

421 4th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, Florida, 33701, USA Fodor's Choice

This charming, chicly renovated 1933 hotel and restaurant on the edge of downtown has become a hub for visitors and locals alike and offers a less pricey alternative to the Vinoy. It's a short walk (or ride on one of the small resort trolleys) from all the excitement. Nor does the hotel skimp on vintage charm, either, adhering to an aesthetic the proprietors call Old Florida eclectic. Many of the rooms have their original hardwood floors and bathtubs (refurbished, of course). A big draw here is the trendy restaurant and taproom, which offers live music as well as a popular trivia night on Sunday (get there early to sign up—hotel guests get five free points). Also key: the pool deck/bar in the courtyard, which is hopping on weekends.

PROS

  • some rooms have refurbished vintage bathtubs
  • close to action
  • good for nightlife

CONS

  • smaller rooms
  • small bathrooms
  • some blight nearby
