Kelly Plantation Golf Club. Designed by Fred Couples and Gene Bates, this semiprivate course is rated 4.5 stars by Golf Digest. The overall layout is encouraging for novice golfers from the forward tees, with hardly any forced carries; however, from the back tees, it’s an entirely different game. Stretching 7,099 yards, the course offers a serious driving test for long hitters. Greens are unique on almost every hole. Keep an eye out for hole 4’s spectacular, panoramic view of Choctawhatchee Bay, and take in the scents and sights of magnolias and palmettos, native to Northwest Florida. Regatta Bay Golf and Country Club. One of the top-ranked courses in Northwest Florida, semiprivate Regatta Bay is open to the public and also home to Destin’s only Golf Academy. The par-72 course, designed by Robert C. Walker, former lead architect for Arnold Palmer, is nestled in almost 120 acres of nature preserve along Choctawhatchee Bay and offers challenges to players of all skill levels.
