Florida Caverns State Park

You won't want to miss the underground tours revealing stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, columns, rim stones, flowstones, and "waterfalls" of solid rock at these caverns, where the temperature hovers at an oh-so-pleasant 68°F year-round. Category 5 Hurricane Michael destroyed the tree canopy in the 1,500-acre park in 2018. The limestone block visitor center constructed by Civilian Conservation Corps workers (who also chipped out the caverns so they could accommodate tourists) withstood the superstorm and is a testament to the park's resilience. It houses museum exhibits, a video, and a gift shop. The park also offers picnic pavilions, campsites, a small playground, and a ½-mile loop trail. Tours can be booked in advance online ( www.floridacaverns.com).
