16 Best Hotel Spas in Napa and Sonoma
Northern California's Wine Country is almost as famous for blissful pampering as it is for wine touring and fine dining. With treatments like grape-seed scrubs and products that incorporate Meyer lemons and other ingredients found in restaurant dishes, all three activities converge on the spa table—and that's not even counting the post-massage glass of sparkling wine many places offer. Some resorts describe their facilities as being for guests only, but if you're not staying at a lodging whose spa strikes your fancy, call to see if staffers will make an exception for you (it's been known to happen).
North Block Hotel
Why it made the list
Inventive treatments and a cocoonlike atmosphere set this Yountville hotel's basement spa apart from its peers. Couples love the "Playful Passion" session that begins in the spa with mutual exfoliation (ooh la la!) and dual massages and concludes in their room, where they play a sensual game.
Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa
Why it made the list
Long before 19th-century Spanish settlers arrived in what's now the town of Sonoma, the Native American residents here bathed in the thermal springs that today feed the Fairmont's pools and hot tubs. The signature bathing ritual at the resort's 40,000-square-foot Willow Stream Spa puts a 21st-century spin on a time-honored tradition.
Napa River Inn
Why it made the list
Less fancy than many resort spas—it occupies Napa's former police station—the Spa at Napa River Inn makes up for its humble digs with peaceful spaces and a treatment lineup assembled by a longtime Napa Valley pro. While you're easing your tension, your dog can get some TLC, too.
Indian Springs Calistoga
Why it made the list
Spa activities on this land date to Calistoga's mid-1800s, by which time the local Wappo Indians had already been taking to these waters for centuries. Although treatments nowadays are more refined, their source—on-site geothermal pools that heat the property's volcanic ash—remains the same.

Why it made the list
Organic locally grown botanicals figure in many of the hotel's "farm-to-spa" treatments, among them the Meyer Lemon Sage and Lavender and Peppermint massages.

Why it made the list
The spa at this inn along Highway 12 in occupies a quiet section of the 2½-acre property. As part of the hotel's recovery from the Wine Country's 2017 wildfires, the spa received a major makeover. Calistoga Ranch
Why it made the list
Oaks, firs, and pines surround the guests-only spa at Calistoga Ranch, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection. Why it made the list
The resort's spa, on the hilltop near the vineyard-view infinity pool, will be under reconstruction through the first half of 2018.
