Fodor's Expert Review Bob Baker Marionette Theater

Downtown Los Angeles Theater

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Trained puppeteer and marionette manufacturer Bob Baker purchased this theater on the outer edges of Downtown Los Angeles (a brightly painted mural will catch your eye from the road) in 1961. Baker died at age 90 in 2014, but his memory lives on at this cultural landmark, and one of the country's longest-running puppet theaters. An annual carnival, as well as galas, screenings presented by Cinefamily, and of course marionette performances, are held throughout the year (they also host birthday parties). Purchase tickets online or over the phone.
