Getting Here and Around
Take the scenic ferry or a water taxi from either Whittier or Valdez along the Alaska Marine Highway, or catch a commercial flight from Anchorage (on Ravn Alaska or Alaska Air) or Juneau via Yakutat (Alaska Air). If taking the ferry from Valdez, be sure your operator points out Bligh Reef—it’s where the Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred, along with numerous other shipwrecks.
Once in Cordova, the center of town is foot-friendly. But you'll want some wheels for heading down the Copper River Highway, a scenic drive to the Copper River delta, the largest contiguous wetlands along the Pacific Coast in North America, and a temporary refueling station for 5 million migrating shorebirds every May.
