Eaglecrest. Southeast's only downhill ski area is on Douglas Island, 30 minutes from downtown Juneau. The resort typically offers skiing and snowboarding from late-November to mid-April on 620 acres of well-groomed and off-piste terrain. Amenities include four double chairlifts, cross-country trails, a beginner's slope, a ski school, a ski-rental shop, a cafeteria, and a tri-level day lodge. In the summer, hikers and bikers can explore the mountain via the service road that runs from the bottom of Eaglecrest to the top of the chairlift, a 2-mile trek with a heart-pumping 1,400-foot elevation gain.
