Fodor's Expert Review Be Playa
Av 10 s/n Esq.Calle 26, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo 77710, Mexico See on Map
Be Playa brings a bold style and a defiant attitude to downtown Playa del Carmen. Located a few meters from the hippest pedestrian street in the Riviera Maya, the famous Fifth Avenue, it offers upscale design, stylish accommodations, excellent gourmet cuisine and lots of party.
room
The 23 suites of Be Playa are divided into three different categories: Standard, Junior and Master Suites. Each category has its own secrets, but they all have in common a modern design with polished concrete walls, hardwood floors, and in-room Jacuzzi. Only the standard suites don’t include private terrace.
YOU SHOULD KNOW This is a party hotel designed by young people for young people. Translation: it can get noisy at times.
bathroom
The bathrooms feature polished concrete walls and hardwood floors, enclosed shower and toilet with stained glass doors and ultra-modern sinks. Of course, they all feature a huge Jacuzzi and come with luxurious Damana organic toiletries.
lobby
A stunningly big and heavy wooden door gives way to a hip space filled with antiquities and vintage furnishing. The front-desk looks a bit office-like, but apart from that is a pleasant space of tasteful design.
pool
A fascinating rooftop pool is the most sought-after spot inside the premises of Be Playa. A classic wooden deck with comfy puff sofas, lounge beds and a few tables, are the setting for wild, Dj-fueled parties on weekends.
dining
A sophisticated sushi club with a chill lounge atmosphere is open all day long. While BeRoof, the star of the property, is a chic rooftop snack bar by the pool with more lounge beds than actual tables.
drinking
During the weekends, BeRoof has a super cool vibe that has make of it on of the most popular bars in Playa. Guests and locals alike, gather together to dance, swim and enjoy fancy cocktails until the early hours of the morning.
On Thursday mornings, there are free yoga lessons at BeRoof. A good opportunity to get some relax time, make new friends and have a snack afterwards.
LOCATION
Getting Around
Cancun International Airport is only an hour away from the hotel and there are many options for transportation, taxi being the most expensive one. You might prefer using a colectivo (mini-bus) or a comfortable ADO bus. The bus terminal is a 10-minute drive from the hotel. If you want to travel outside Playa del Carmen during your vacation, renting a car from day 1 is a good idea. If you are comfortable with staying only in town, you can get almost everywhere on foot; distances are not that big.
Restaurants
Rey David (2-minute walk) has the best pasta in town, and believe me, competition is tough in Playa with so many Italian expats. La Vagabunda Playa (2-minute walk) is a good option for trying Mexican food if you are not brave to try tacos from street stands.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Because it’s cool, modern and hip. We love the rooftop pool and the DJ parties. The Quinta Avenida is just around the corner.
