Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Riu Palace Las Américas
Blvd. Kukulcán, Km 8.5, Cancún, Quintana Roo, 77500, Mexico
The most upscale of Cancún's Riu properties, this colossal eight-story resort at the north end of the Zona Hotelera is visually stunning. Unlike the modern, minimalist resorts that dot the strip, the decoration here is a bit baroque, with towering columns and cupolas in the lobby, and ornate mahogany furniture and patterned bedding in even the most basic suites. All also have a walk-in closet, sitting room, and four-bottle liquor dispenser. The property has six restaurants, four of which require reservations. This is a resort that mainly attracts guests over 40.

- spacious suites
- access to sister properties in Cancún and Playa del Carmen
- 24-hour room service
CONS
- small pools and tiny beach
- not much late-afternoon sun by the pool or beach
- no kids under 18
